I caught a couple of my ball pythons looking as if they were "stargazing". They are in tubs that are about 6 inches tall, and they were crawling around the sides, and it looked like they were trying to get out by sticking their noses at the top edge where the tub opens when it slides out. When they reached the top edge, their head followed the "ceiling" (shelf above acting as roof) for about an inch and their head was upside down. They stayed like that for maybe a minute or something, and I went towards them to check it out and they felt/saw me through the transparent tubs and they shot back down into normal position. This was a few days ago I wasn't concerned because I thought they just wanted to get out, but I read a post about stargazing and now I am asking the question if anything is wrong. I can't get a photo because I haven't seen them do it since.
It is getting hot here weather wise and all heat tape is turned off. I read that other post about the guy who had his room at 100F can cause neurological disorders, but my room usually is at about 85 - 86F during this summer. On VERY hot days (rare) it gets up to 88 -89 for a couple hours in the afternoon but it never goes outside the range of temps normally recommended for balls 80 - 90F or so.
The only other thing that has changed recently is that I am getting rats from another source, but I have fed them to other snakes and they do not show this, or at least I have not seen them do it. The old source ran out of certain sizes, and I doubt there is a problem with the new rats because as far as I know quite a lot of people used their rats and I haven't heard any problems. But you never know? They are all fed F/T.
I may add that the other snakes that ate the new rats I haven't seen this, but they are usually the ones who are in their hide all the time and come out to eat, whatever. Those two are the more "active" ones that come out crawl about a bit.
