Temporary tub: is this ok?

I would just run it for a while to make sure that the heat pad will keep proper ambient temps (unless shes gonna let you heat a room), other than that it should be fine.

My mom's house IS much colder than my apartment. If I do need more heat, is the ok to use a lamp with plastic tubs with that clip they come with? Obviously setting them right on the plastic is a horrible idea. What is a safe distance from the plastic?
