Just Rescued a Beautiful Big Girl

At the end of October my friend on F*book posted saying he was looking for any responsible member of his Network willing to Adopt a mistreated/Malnourished Ball Python. Unfortunately I had to tell him NO because of my landlord had recently told my wife and I that we weren't allowed to have anymore animals.(at the time we had 1 dog, 1 cats and 2 Pythons) I told my friend that I'd keep my ear to the ground and see if I could find it a good home. Long story short, He was called by a friend of his who's nephew had left for college and left his snake behind apparently this young man lived in his disabled mother's basement and had left the snake in a ten gallon aquarium on fish gravel with no heat. Needless to say my friend was livid and immediately went to pick up the poor animal.

So my Wife gets home and I tell her the story and she promptly tells me to Call my buddy and tell him we'll take it. We pick her up a few days later and the poor thing is skin and bones. I bring her home get her settled in a quarantine cage and start to observe her behavior. She ( I probed her to determine her sex) wieghed a little over 1100g when I brought her home but judging by her length this is a female who should be closer to 2500g at peak wieght.

Normally I would have let her settle in for a few days before offering her food but I couldn't deny that her body was devouring itself from the inside, so I offered her a live Pup, which she promptly devoured, so I offered a second one, down the hatch. After 5 days I offered her a small rat which she had completely swallow within 5 minutes. Since then like clock work she has eaten Medium rats every 5 days and even one large when one of macklott's refused to eat. She switched to frozen without a problem and is filling out Nicely.

She has been in my care for exactly 42 days and she has only pooped once, which I attribute to her bodies need to replenish itself.

As of Last night she was up to 1450g. She is currently in Blue and looking very plump and happy. Originally I was only going to nurse her back health and then find her a home but she is such a Sweet, Inquisitive and Calm animal that I have decided to keep her.

    Her Name is Zen.

Figured a rescue story with a happy ending would make somebodies day!
