I think the OP might be confusing the two?
You need a "thermostat" to control your heat source, and digital "thermometer" to give you temps. If you are getting 85 degrees your heat pad has to be scorching hot
You dont want your pad to get over 95 degrees, regardless of how much substrate you have you dont want anything your snake can come into contact with to cook it.
