SO...
We've been building up our normal girl collection, since we have a friend who will loan us a couple morph males come next breeding season. We've gotten a few that are big girls, a couple that are big enough, or close to big enough, that we hope will get a little bigger by season, and a couple really small ones that wont be ready for a couple seasons yet.
Well... we realized last night, we hadn't actually probed a couple of them, even though the people we got them from had said they were probed by the "reliable breeder" they got them from. Turns out one of our smaller girls is a boy... I flat out popped him easily. The other small girl is possibly a male... bf says he probed it as a male, but I want our friend to triple check. And lastly.. one of the "medium" girls is definitely male....
We even have 3 methods of sexing... probing, popping, and The Colonel, our huge pastel boy that is male aggressive. With girls he'll just snuggle up or act like nobody is near him, with boys, he does the "look how tough I am!!" display. I just wish we would have checked before we got the snakes home and used up the rat colony >.>
So.. minor setbacks, just happy it wasn't any of them that were likely to affect us this season. I guess the moral of the story is to always always always remember the probe kit when getting a new animal, no matter what the people say, or how "reliable" they seem.
