i can say that i honestly believe, and someone of the faith correct me if my wrong here, that catholics hate snakes cuz the devil appeared as one in the bible and we all know he's the villain there.

I'm not saying Catholics hate snakes because the devil appeared as one. I'm saying HE hates snakes because the devil appeared as one. I've got a close friend who is also a devout Catholic, and though she was nervous (not afraid, however) around snakes at first, she's warming up to mine quickly and now wants one of her own. So no, this kid is not meant to be a posterchild for the religion, I'm just theorizing his logic.

i'm sorry you had such a rough time with that guy but please understand that he is right on his point that you should take care of who you approach about the snake issue,especially the feeding topic, it's a very sensitive issue & some people are just not as enthusiastic about it and most of them cant help it if they've been taught that way.
no i'm not saying him calling you a sadist is right but i can also see how he thinks watching a snake eat is sadistic, it makes sense, though his way of expressing that wasnt very nice.

I am careful. I specifically choose who to invite and who not to invite. I thought that maybe, since he was so enveloped in science, he might find it fascinating, like I do. And other people who were not interested responded with a simple "No, sorry. I don't have the stomach for it." rather than his nasty comments. I respect that he does not want to see it, but that's why I asked instead of just giving him the link and letting him unwittingly click it.

And no, it doesn't make sense. The definition of a sadist is a person who enjoys inflicting pain. The rat is dead, and therefore incapable of feeling pain, so I am not a sadist. And if I had to feed live, I would still not be a sadist, because I would enjoy watching the snake be a snake, not watching the rat die.


ALSO an update: I got on the bus today to find him in the seat behind mine. I was the mature individual and didn't say anything, but he said that he was there to apologize to me. Apparently, his definition of "apologize" is different than the rest of the world, because he said it was my fault for riling him up while he was busy. So basically, "Sorry you were wrong." Then this:
Him: You need to learn to take a joke.
Me: You need to learn to convey emotion across text better.
Him: I don't NEED to do anything.
Me: Neither do I.
Other person (talking to him): You need to breathe.
Him: I do need to breathe. Actually, I don't. I could stop right now.
Me (with a big smile and an obviously joking tone): Please do.
Him: SEE!? You want me to stop breathing! You ARE a sadist!
Me: You'd be stopping yourself from breathing. So you'd be a masochist, I'd be an innocent bystander who happened to be laughing.

He got up and left after the kids that sit in that area (most are my friends) ousted him. Apparently, he expects me to take a joke online over text with no smileys or anything to let me know he was joking, but he can't take one in person with a smile and a vocal intonation. So yeah. We'll see where things go from here.
