Heya!!!

My name is Trevor, and i live in SLC. I will be 25 this May and am married to a wonderful woman. I work as a test technician, building and repairing medical lasers that are used in the ophthalmology field. Its great fun and I love knowing that i am helping someone see.

On the snakes/reptiles side, I owned a very aggressive western hognose that was so fun to take care of and watch, but would bite often. I moved into an apartment with my wife and the little guy had to go. Last September we bought a house though, and I am looking for another snake!

The two snakes I really have my eyes on are ball pythons and rosy boas. Im looking to step up a bit on the size and think those two would be great, but can only get one.

Regarding ball pythons - my wife and i went to the pet store just to check them out and hold them a bit. We were a bit surprised that all 3 they had at the shop were striking and quite nippy. This was contrary to what we have read about them, I have always heard how sweet they are. Is this something that is normal and will go away? I imagine they were just scared and am sure if they actual got me it would not even hurt, but the thought of it not going away and getting bit by an adult turned me off a bit.

Also, I live in Utah and it is quite dry here. I know that balls need quite a bit of humidity. Is it going to be a problem to maintain the humidity it needs?

Regarding a Rosy Boa - I really like what i have read about their attitude. They seem quite calm and gentle. I like their size, but I like ball pythons color and general shape more (the shape of their heads are so regal and amazing). I suppose in my mind it seems like going with a ball, i get a nicer looking snake, and going with a rosy I get a nicer attitude snake. If this is true I think i would go with the good attitude.

Since rosy boa's are a less popular type of snake, its hard to find a lot of information about them as well.

With either snake, does owning a cat create problems? I don't think the cat would bother the snake, but i don't know if its "taboo" with snakes.

I guess that's all for now. I'll be sure to go through the forums with a fine tooth comb. (I'm a bit obsessive at this point, spending hours and hours watching videos, and reading)

Oh lastly, I heard about you guys from SnakeBytes.tv OMG love watching those guys.

Sorry for the wall-o-text

Trevor.
