Hey Everybody,
I'm a high school guy involved in public speaking, and I want to write a speech about our concerns. I know there is a lot of misconceptions about pythons, which has lead to lots of people wanting to get them banned from private ownership. So, I have decided to write a speech in their defense.
This is where yall come in, I hope that someone here who knows more than me might be able to think of some useful info that I could use in my speech.
I was thinking my first point should be showing that pet pythons aren't any more dangerous than a dog, and that the opposite is actually true.
Then for my second point I was wanting to say that they aren't as big an environmental threat as the media would have us believe. I already know about the Barkers stuff, but is there any other places that say things to this affect?
For my third point I want to show how this matters to the average person. I'm sure they'll all be glad to know that statistically there isn't much chance of them getting killed by a constrictor, but really it doesn't affect them much. In my years of speech and debate if there is one thing I learned it's that if you want to reach people then you have to make it matter to them. My thought was to try and show that if snakes are banned then it could lead to other things getting banned, but I don't know if people would buy that argument. So, any ideas here would be appreciated, even if it meant changing up the points a little.
Thanks,
Daniel
