While watching my local news last night, a segment came up on Alligator Wrestling. I think it was in Louisiana, but I'm not quite sure (wasn't feeling too good). They were saying how they have competitions to wrestle an alligator for 10 mins, and they judge based on the size of the alligator, among other things.
They want it to become a sport. They're trying to branch out and get it known. One onlooker said "People like to go watch hockey games for the fights and car races for the wrecks. People like to watch alligator wrestling for the bites."
I wasn't upset with the segment until they said this "To those who are wondering about the alligators, they say it's ok that they wrestle with them because they are rescues. If they hadn't been rescued, they would be dead." That ticked me off a little bit. It's almost like they're saying "It's ok to take a dog from an adoption center and fight it, because if you hadn't it would be put to sleep anyway."
I'm not keen on alligator wrestling, I don't know if it causes stress to the animal or if they can be injured, but it just really made me angry when they said that.
Just wanted to post this and get other peoples opinions.
Edit: Here's the guy that was talking last night. It's not my news station, but it's the same script. The person who said the thing about them being dead was the news anchor after they showed the clip of this guy being interviewed.
