First off - yeah no pictures - my camera needs to be recharged - once the bandages come off I'll post some photos. Believe me while my hand was covered in blood my first thought was to get the camera and snap away. Again - battery was flat.....
So today I was cleaning the cage of one of my big male BT cribos. This dude is about 9 pounds and pushing 90 inches.........
He's in the mood for love right now and has been ignoring food for the last four or five weeks. I took him out of his hide box to change the spaghnum moss and had him draped about my neck. He usually climbs my head or goes into my shirt.............
I had just finished weighing the sonoran gophers and forgot to wash my hands before working on his cage. While I was busy cleaning the box with my right hand he slid down my shoulder and arm and latched on to my left.
Getting bit by a giant colubrid is...well....... the only way I can describe it is being in a razor blade vise. They bite like pit bulls and chew. He got the side of my hand next to my pinkie and began working his way up to the pinkie itself. I grabbed his head and forced his mouth open with my right hand and pulled the left out.
The lacerations are pretty bad, but as of 9:45 PM ( this happened at 5:15 PM) my hand still hurts like heck due to the force of the bite.
I've gotten tagged by drys before, but never by one of the big boys. If I had panicked and tried to pull my hand away, I'm betting I'd have a couple of stitches to go with the ache.
