Hello,

The vet finally thought Monty was big enough to do a probe, which resulted in the finding that Monty is female. She was sold to me by a pet store as male (I have since learned to avoid pet stores, but I think I got lucky), however I started to suspect she was a female pretty early on (tail structure etc). After the vet visit, we stopped into work and we had a little show and tell. About five people came out, which was most of the people working at that time. They were fascinated by her.

I also finally got her on rats. I didn't start earlier due to my lack of understanding that she could be started very early, and I could not find rat pups or kittens anywhere around here. I didn't want to get a full order of mouse factory rats for an experiment. But now she's big enough to try the smallest rat a local shop had. I had them kill it, and I nervously presented it. I was completely on the fence if this would be too big for her.

But she knocked it down like a champ, I'm so proud of her! I got a lot of good pictures of the action, including several good pictures of the glottis (breathing tube) in both open and closed states. She has not regurgitated the rat nor is she acting unusual.

As usual the pictures are much too big to be posting inline, I have them all here:

Thank you for reading and looking!
