Armadillo Lizards

These are not Armadillo Lizards.

True Armadillo Lizards - Cordylus cataphractus got their common name from their tendancy to curl up into a ball - like an Armadillo. This species is native to South Africa and can be found in and around kopjes ( rocky outcrops ) and scrub land habitat.

What we have here is the Tropical Girdled Lizard - Cordylus tropidosternum granted they are from the same family but they are not the same. Cordylus tropidosternum do not curl up into a ball and prefer a more tropical habitat.

Don't get me wrong they are cool lizards in their own right but they are a fraction of the price of true Armadillo Lizards.

I was just going to post this. The lizards you have are sometimes called armadillo lizards but you can tell the difference when you pay $500+ for a "real" Armadillo and $30-50 for the Girdled and the spikes are more promamant(sp?) in the real dillo. I have one of these and they are neat but not the true armadillo.
