Hi
right well its coming to the time of year when i always clean my rack out and get all my ladies and gentleman ready for the breeding season, i dont do any cleaning apart from the obvious spot cleaning and waterbowl duties because i dont want to upset their smells and environments,
i usually use humid hides so my snakes can regulate their own humidity but i have found pros and cons of the method
pros
1) snakes can regulate their own humidity
2) i havnt had a stuck shed in 4 years
3) feeding response is strong on all snakes apart from the odd fast
cons
1) moss inside the hides dries out weekly and quicker in the drier months,
2) all my snakes seem to do their urates and poo in the hides which makes for an unclean environment, and also cannot be spotcleaned very efficiently because its a small enclosed space.
3) if the moss dries out or gets messed alot it needs to be replaced and the hide cleaned, this doesnt sound like much but when you ave to do it 15 times as well as 15 bowls etc (you know what its like)
so my conclusion is that i would like to do away with my humid hides but i am concerned about how i would regulate my snakes humidity efficiently.
one idea i have taken from Scott w is to stick sticky back plastic over a area of holes that ventilate the tub, obviously leaving a portion at the front so there is a nice air flow,
please has anyone had experience with this method or any other methods then can give me to use?
thanks
