Rant - School System Fail
Do you ever feel like 'the powers that be' must be conspiring against you?
There are so many things wrong with the way my school (and the school system in general) is run that I wont even try to mention all of them. The long and the short of it is that if anybody ever told you that all you need to succeed is persistence and determination, they lied. You also need at least a LITTLE cooperation from whatever institution or person you're dealing with.
I started signing up for classes the first day I'm allowed to, paid for them, and printed my schedule. What could go wrong? Well, the Governator could increase the cost of classes per unit without giving me any notice, slapping an extra 80 bucks onto my bill, which resulted in me being dropped from every class until I pay for them. The system isn't actually programmed to do this, it just does, because it's cheaply made and full of bugs. As the days pass, the classes I want fill up with other people without my knowledge, and when I show up on the first day I find I'm not on anybody's roll sheet. I throw a hissy fit at the admissions office and manage to get registered in the classes again. (this probably bumped an unlucky few people off of the wait lists of those classes. hm.) One class dropped me anyway for "being absent on the first day". I was there, just not on the roll sheet. It was molecular biology, which I needed to transfer. I had bought the textbook from the campus bookshop for $95 before class, and they would only buy it back from me for $2 because during the 2 days it had been in my possession, it went from 'new' to 'used'. All that had really happened was I took the shrink wrap off.
Now, several of my teachers are posting printable homework assignments online at the school's website. Last year, I never once had an issue getting onto the site. Of course now, when my grade depends on it, I inexplicably can't access it. Nobody knows why that only in MY house do I get an error message when trying to sign on. I know it's not the system's fault, it's something to do with my house or my account, because friends of mine can use the site, no problem. One friend of mine even got onto my account from his house, but after I'd driven over there in 102 degree weather with no A/C, it suddenly wasn't working anymore. I e-mail the administration office to try to make them fix it (because, of course, there's no support system in place for the site/program itself), and they respond to my 3-paragraph rant with one sentence: "If you need further assistance, please contact the administration office." with a list of contact information, including the e-mail address they had just responded to me from. That's it. Win.
I'm now taking a break from studying for a math test that my teacher told us on the first day was scheduled for last tuesday, that on the tuesday he said was bumped up to the next thursday, which wasn't given that day and was then told in an e-mail later that night would be given this upcoming tuesday, but in the syllabus says is scheduled for 9/3, thursday of next week.
Was school ever this troublesome for you?
