I was wondering, what is the typical condition of a frozen feeder rodent?

I recently fed a f/t adult mouse to my bp from petco and it had a water logged stomach, was missing hair, and barely even looked like a mouse. It makes me want to stick with live. Will smaller, private exotic pet stores contain a better product? What is the best choice for purchasing for a single snake?
