First I have heard different things about gerbils. Some say snakes can eat them others say it is unhealthy. What do you all know about that? We have a pair of gerbils of breeding age that were together for 3-4 months and no babies so we assumed they were not going to produce at all. We were surprised to find her with a litter of babies 5 total. Right off the bat 2 died, I watched momma gerbil a while and she was rounding them up and like laying over them so they maybe they could nurse, but this evening I found 2 more dead so I am assuming she didn't have milk cause I didn't see any gerbil boobies. We had since gotten some rats and mice one of the rats we got was pregnant and she delivered today, someone told us that they were good parents and they would foster almost any small rodent. I gently rubbed the last living gerbil baby in the rat substrate and put it on top of her pile of babies. My question is, will she treat it as her own and will she help it eat? I know the gerbil is about half the size of her babies but I am hoping maybe it will live! She has been in the nest with them ever since I did that so I dont think she will abandon her own...
