deep breath!
Ok so i was in the pet store the other day and as usual i'm looking at all the critters. I noticed the rose hair t was still there and I asked a worker how long he had been there, he said over a month! So i'm looking at him contemplating on getting him since I have a serious phobia. After about 30 minutes of staring, I broke down went and got a 20 gallon locking lid and supplies and requested someone to get him for me. Now my fiance has been begging for one so I made that my excuse to also get him. I couldn't leave him there when no one wanted him. So any good advice on rose hairs I would appreciate, i have read up on them but nothing is better than personal experience. He is a rather big boy, well they said it was a boy. I will have pics tommorow, I wanted him to settle in first. He was a bit grumpy from the transfer of homes. I know someday I will get courage to hold him.....deep breath!

Re: deep breath!
my wife says spiders belong outside. No chance of any of those coming inside.

Re: deep breath!
Tarantulas are so cool, but there is no way I'd convince my girl to let me have one.. plus I don't feel comfortable handling them, which is definitely something I consider in any possible pet.

Can you get a pic of the underside of your T?
Oh yeah....congrats on taking the steps to get over your phobia
I will try to get a pic soon, like i said trying to give it some space right now. I put two half logs in the tank and a water dish. He/she is quite large and that is what they suggested so that is what i got. I will get a pic tonight when i get home of setup. Now for the pics of the underside, uhh give me time. I havne't even got the nerve to touch it yet.

Good job on getting the T! You know, you don't have to handle him/her if you don't want to, they are good display animals. My rosey is pretty laid back, so I do handle her from time to time, but that was after I got used to her. Take your time....
Here's a link from the Arachnoboards web site, some good info on the rose hair. I'm no spider expert, but if you have general questions I may be able to help.

Re: deep breath!
You will see that your little rosea will not move around a lot and really wont need all that space. I have my adult female rose hair in a medium critter keeper (I think) and it is perfect for her. I will post a pic of her in it for reference when I get a chance. A 5 gallon tank would be plenty of room. A 10gallon would be over kill and a 20 gallon you could put a big 10" T blondi in. Use something like bed a beast for substrate, they like it dry and add a hide, a water dish (do not put a sponge in it) and decorations if you wanted. Get yourself a pair of 10" tweezers (tongs) from the pet store to remove dead crickets and discarded food boluses. That's about it. Then sit back and enjoy Oh and if you got a male that is mature he will sadly only live a few years If it is a mature male it will have tibial hooks an the first pair of legs and the tips of the pedipalps will look kinda like boxing gloves (club shaped).

Re: deep breath!
congrats on your new pet. First of all, 20 gal is way too big. I find that a kritter keeper breeder tank is good. Limit the height of the tank to no more than 2 1/2 times his length by adding more substrate. If he climbs the tank and falls, he stands a better chance of not getting hurt by limiting the height.

Re: deep breath!
Ok thanks for all the info for my T! he/she seems to be adapting well and will move him/her to a smaller tank. Now i've read several things about the humidity for t's. I want to know what everyone else is doing to compare to what i've read. They live where they don't get alot of humidity all the time so one place said not to mist because it would agitate the T. Other sites say to keep humidity up to 60-70%!! So what is everyone do about there humidity?

Re: deep breath!
I do not keep my Rosea's with any special humidity care. They are fairly dry arid animals
