    My Day 3.02.09

So Yesterday My company laid-off 70 more people after laying off 95 in Oct. I was one of those people. I am actually taking it alot better than I thought I would. Maybe it was the fact that I was getting tired of the job anyways(you know we all need a break at sometime) or maybe it was the fact my boss kinda teared up. See I was a good employee with not a mark on my record other than breaking my leg last August that resulted in being off full duty for 6 months. He made it very clear that I was going to be the first person he called when the job market picked up. So that made it seem a little better. Now you have to ask if I have anymore prospects in a new job? No, but I'm good at change and will adapt to a new job fairly well. Well I'm going to post this and quit babbling. Now my question is how would you take it in you current situation?

Very sorry to hear that you lost your job, and good luck with finding a new one. Luckily my company has not had to lay off anyone yet, but who knows what the future will bring. Hopefully the economy will pick up soon.

Thanks Eddie, it was a sort of lottery see I had 6 years in and the company have people that have been there a shorter time that didn't get laid-off. But like I said a change may be good for me at this juncture in life

I work in a manufacturing company. This is something I have thought about a lot. I hoenstly think that it would suck, but what am I going to do to fix it? I just need to roll with the punches and trust that I will get through it.

    I always do.

I wish you luck in the changes ahead.

so sorry Tim. Times are tough and going to get a bit tougher I fear. You have a great attitude about it, I hope something comes your way fast. You will be eligible for unemployment, right?
If my company laid off, it would hurt us terribly (read devastate). We have had lots of short hour weeks, but it's been enough. We have a long term contract for work, and from what the 'company' tells us, there is more than enough work for years. I'm crossing my fingers.

    Best of luck!!

    Re: My Day 3.02.09

    Man. That sucks.

But, I don't feel sorry for you

twas about 5 months ago when I received that "talk" from my company. they gave me an extra two weeks pay and said "good luck"

since then, I have not put in a single job application to any company in the industry I'm in.

It has been 100% freelance ever since. I could not be happier.

Sure, the job security is nice. It's nice knowing you'll be getting that pay check...

But it's also nice creating your own living. It's nice to find that niche and create your own income. It's harder - a hell of a lot harder - but worth every minute.

I've read quite a few of the books by Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad/ Poor Dad) and it really gives you a different perspective of todays living. My mother - TODAY - sent me 6 job listings for an IT Specialist for the US Government with salaries up to 125k per year. I replied back with "no thanks". My mother is still in the mindset that a lot of the Kiyosaki books talk about... "go to school...get a good job with benefits", which is how 95% of people are raised to think. I think that's changing.

I would rather make less money doing something I love and really enjoy doing than be stuck at a government job. I'm not getting rich doing what I do - but that doesn't bother me.

My point is - don't dwell on it. Don't feel sorry for yourself. Don't be upset with yourself or your company. Yeah the economy kinda sucks right now - but I see it as just a temporary slow down.

Now that you have all this free time on your hands, get over your fears of not having money and do something for yourself. There's nothing like being independent. Screw corporate.

    Good luck manno
