i wanted to give them wood to chew on. they dont chew on anything in the tubs but id like to give them something.
now i have spare wood that's made of pine. and some that's mdf and particle board. which would be best for them to have at it.

The "factory" wood has alot of chemicals in it. If I am not mistaken pine is not safe for them, I could be wrong but I would not risk it until some one like Connie or Mike can chime in.
Kiln dried pine is ok because the way it is dried.
I give them paper towel tubes, and other little bits of stuff for them to munch on.
My grow outs have little wood huts they munch on. It is not cheep but I only have two grow out tubs and I replace them from being dirty before they chew them up.
I hope this helps some.

I thought I saw a post where Connie said that the pine was kiln dried
I could be wrong, but I have been giving pieces of pine to my asf and they love to chew on them.

I cut up 2x4's and 1x2's and give that to them. They love it!

Pretty much what we do. It isn't pressure treated, just long 2 x 2's or 2 x 4's cut up into about 4" blocks.
The pine wood blocks for chewing and gnawing are okay. (And they chew them to little round dowels)
Also give toilet paper rolls for them to shred.
