petsmart
I had to laugh tonite. Now i can't remember where but I know i read it here. They actually will not sell you a mouse at all after you tell them you feed live food. You go on a do not sell list or something i guess. My husband had to brag that he had to feed off 20 rats today to my juvies. She told us then we will not sell you any mice or rats because its against company policy. This coming from a girl standing 10 feet from a display of snakes including corns, kingsnakes, ball pythons and an empty boa constrictor cage. I asked what they feed their snakes then and she told us that isn't her department and she didn't know. Im always amazed when people are so ignorant about snakes but are still willing to sell one to the public. This is the same person that probably never understands why snakes owners who buy from them let a 6 foot boa loose because they can't house it properly anymore because "petsmart" doesn't sell a tank that is large enough to house it. My rant for the day.

Re: petsmart
Well the thing is, it is not her fault, to answer your question Petsmart feed F/T more often than not they actually force feed the animals.
It is COMPANY policy not to sell any live animals as feeder, employees do not have a say and MUST go by the book.
Whether she is or not knowledgeable is really irrelevant especially if she is not in charge of the reptiles.
If I was working there I could not tell you what the chinchillas are being fed or how to care for them but I would if it was MY department.
Either way knowledgeable or not there is VERY little petsmart employees can do.

Re: petsmart
I would have figured as much. One mouse there is 6 bucks :/
I think pet supplies plus is the only place that sells specifically feeder mice at a low price.

you are correct, it isn't the girls fault. The funny thing is she did now that they typically eat live food. I didn't know they force fed them. Maybe i should befriend a petsmart employee so that when i need to assist feed some ball hatchlings this year, I don't have to do it myself. I just don't understand how the executives of petsmart can sleep at night with policies like that. I only wish i had 10 bucks to pay for a mouse to buy one as a pet and walk out after naming it dinner. While on the subject though they do sell crickets that are live huh amazing just because its a mammal it can't be food. Sorry Im just having one of those days.

Re: petsmart
Ever notice how many crickets are in the cages with the snakes at Petsmart.
Like the corn snakes and BP's are actually going to eat those crickets.

I didn't know they force fed them.
Sadly they often have to because simply because they will not eat for them
..hmm wonder why? multiple housing, improper husbandry, stress

I'm not sure I would do that, those that do barely have experience themselves.
I just don't understand how the executives of petsmart can sleep at night with policies like that.
One word MONEY
While on the subject though they do sell crickets
If there was a market for pet crickets they probably would start selling leashes for them and no longer sell them as feeder either

Re: petsmart
Funny you should post this. A few months ago, my boyfriend and I walked into a petsmart to see if they sold feeder rats or mice and the woman responded in a very condescending tone stating that Petsmart's company policy doesn't support animal cruelty and blah blah blah.
I told her I think it's also cruel to starve another animal. What I don't understand is why they sell small packs of tiny frozen mice but they won't get frozen rats...
Anyway... it's to be expected from a major corporation. I just think they could have better reasoning for it and nicer ways to go about stating it to their customers.

deborah you are in deed the wise one. Can i ask you some questions about life too because all your other answers are definately spot on. Its just a sad sad world we live in. That does explain why those balls always look so skinny and deathly in petsmart.
