    28 qt tubs

I just bought 5 28qt tubs from target for $4 each. Just wondering whats the biggest bp I can put in there. I was thinking of getting the 41 qt, but they were too long.. Is long tub ok for bigger bps?

32qt to 41qt is Ideal for adult ball pythons.

28qts is debatable, some people say it's fine others not so much. Personally I'd keep maybe something sub 1200 Grams in a 28qt tub, but I don't use them to be honest.

    thanks..

Up to what size can I keep in a 28qt?

there were 32qts. But same dimensions, just a bit higher so I don't think 32 qts make any difference from the 28qts.

Is long ok? The 41qt is the same width as the 28qts I have and also same with the 32 qt, but only longer.

About 3000-4000 grams. A 28qt has the same footprint as a 32qt. They are just about an inch less in height. People will argue about 28-32qt being too small for big girls, but I'll say otherwise. I've bred and produced many in them, and some females just stop feeding when moved into bigger tubs.

I say 3000-4000 because I have a het pied girl that tops my scale out and she's been in a 28-32 her whole life.....she's probably closer to 5k. Most of my others are in the 2000-3000 gram range. Personal preference.

wow. That was pretty helpful Osborne. So I can keep them in those 28 qt if I don't want to go larger.

Now.. What size heat tape is better for the 28 qt tubs? 3" or 4"? Im thinking to go with 4".. I wonder why they don't make 6" and 8" but just go straight to 11".. hmmm..

IT's because Flexwatt wasn't originally designed to be used for herps. However it does a fantastic job heating them up! A lot of people prefer to use 3", my current rack uses 3" but my new one I'm going to bump up to 4".

I would do the 4" also. From what I understand, it uses a larger surface area and draws less power. Not that the risk of catching fire is eliminated, but I'm sure it's not as high since it doesn't get as hot.

id also like to ad that 3" will melt tubs even with a small gap between the tub and the heat tape. it happened to me, but i got lucky and caught it before any snakes or fire could start.

Yes it definitely will. It's always best to use Flexwatt with a thermostat or a rheostat. I would advise against using it without either.
