Re: How to use Provent a mite, without killing your snake

Approximately how long do you wait before putting the snake back in the enclosure. An hour or upto even a day? Also, its unsafe to feed on treated substrate? What do you recommend if the snake won't feed in another enclosure? I'm currently raising a young BCC and would be nervous about feeding in another enclosure because of stress/regurge issues.

Maybe instead of treating substrate would it be enough to treat the cage itself and then make sure you are putting in clean substrate?
    Thanks!

If the snake won't eat out of its enclosure, missing one or even a few meals won't hurt it, assuming it is otherwise healthy and well fed. The substrate needs a full change periodically, even if you only spot clean most of the time, so you can resume feeding in the enclosure at that time.

However, it is probably better to get rid of your old substrate when you start treatment, because it is likely full of mites and mite eggs. Use paper towels or newspaper while treating, then go back to your preferred substrate once you are sure the infestation has been wiped out.

I have a can in the snake room, but i'm too lazy to go grab it. Im pretty sure the directions say to wait 30 minutes to make sure any fumes are gone and that they spray is dry, I wait at least that, sometimes up to 45 or an hour. Generally I feed the snakes in a separate container (im lucky enough, mine dont care where they are when they eat) and by the time they're done I can safely put them back in their regular enclosures.

[QUOTE=mooingtricycle;980717]Spray for two seconds moving the can the length of the enclosure to cover the substrate. you dont need much.

Let it sit for about 10 seconds, waving your hand over the substrate to get rid of the fumes.

Place snake back in tub, and done!

    Its really simple!

according to the directions on the can after spraying: "ventilate the enclosure well until spray has completely dried and all vapors have dissipated".
how can this happen in 10 seconds? did you mean 10 minutes?

I'd would like definite answer on this please lol I treated my cage a few days ago and it's feeding time. My bp knows it is because he keeps following me when I walk pass. So can I feed on treated substrate?
