update on casper..worried

ok a month ago casper got R.I. been taking her to the vet and she was getting alot better. we actually thought she was cured so we didnt take her to the vet one week. well last week she turned for the worse. we took her back to the vet sunday n he gave her more antibiotic shots. well the past two days, she wont let us touch her she nudges us everytime. hisses at us. i dont understand. shes taking very deep breaths constantly and stays out of her hide. she is breathing very hard. i dont know what else to do.. i love her and i dont want to loose her.. the vet said she is getting better but i dont think so. can anybody with experience help? please and thank you.

Would you want someone picking you up and playing with you when you were sick? Give her some alone time so she can get better. The best thing you can do for her is let her rest. What is your warm side temp? I have heard raising that can help them fight off sickness.

I would get a second opinion from another vet. If the vet thinks she is fine and your gut says she is not, go to a different vet. Trust your gut.

i have been to two different vets and they both say that she will pull through. but even during this sickness she has been playful n wanting out. now she doesnt even want us touching her. warm side is 90-95. plus an UTH.

Is your current setup the same as the one pictured in your gallery? If so I would suggest a few quick changes:
1. Put another hide in there, and put the water bowl in the middle.
2. Cover 3 sides with dark paper, foam board, or paint them.
3. fill the tank with some fake plants or something to make her feel more secure.

Is she still eating regularly? I think her moodiness will just pass when she feels more comfortable. She is probably sick of getting shots! What you are describing doesn't sound like her RI is getting worse, it just sounds like she is in a bad mood.

She is probably scared. If there is no wheezing or liquid coming from her mouth then I wouldn't think she is getting worse. When you stick you hand in her tank she might just be startled and start breathing heavily. I am sure something similar has happened to you at some point!

Listen, you are describing a worsening of her condition. If you think she is getting worse, bring her back to the vet. Nobody here can tell-- you are the one who will know best if she is the same or if she is getting sicker. I haven't had a sick snake but I have had a sick dog and a sick horse and YOU, the onwer, have to trust your instinct. You have to go out and push for the treatment she may need. You may just get the same opinion-- the vet may say, oh she will be fine. And then if you go home and you are still worried, you go back. Sometimes you will be a nervous nellie and your animal really will be ok and sometimes you will be RIGHT and you need to keep harassing the vets until they see what you see. Don't be afraid to do it. Don't be shy about it. You are the customer and you are pushing for your animal's sake. The vet can suck it up, roll their eyes, think you are an idiot, but they will take your money and they will examine her. Know what I mean?

If she is wheezing and breathing heard then definitely take her back. I think after a couple more antibiotic shots she should be fine. Are you keeping your hot side a little warmer? What is your hot side temp?
