    Thermostats?

I know nothing about them, please help.

If you have seperate tanks as opposed to a rack do you need a seperate thermostat for each tank?

How do they work? What do you hook them up to? Is it something that has a socket to plug a UTH into? Does it have a thermometer probe to put into the tank or what?

I just cant wrap my head around it. lol

    Thanks everyone

    Re: Thermostats?

Picture a small box with 3 long tails.
1 is the temp probe - (tape or place probe on heat source)
1 is the plug to the wall
1 is the power strip you plug your uth to

I never used them with tanks, but in theory, if you get the temps setup on one of the tanks, plugging the other uth for the second tank will heat to the settings originally set. (identical setup, etc). Hope that paints the picture.

    Re: Thermostats?

So there's a power strip to hook more than one UTH into? And you just set it to whatever temperature you want?

    Thanks

    Re: Thermostats?

in a perfect world you would set it and forget it like ronco says. But you probably will have to make some slight adjustment to get the temp just right. Just keep checking your temps till its fine tuned in. Its not that hard might take a day our 2 to get it just right.

    Re: Thermostats?

Do you put the temp probe on the UTH itself or in the tank, like in the warm hide?

    Thanks lol

    Re: Thermostats?

I personally when I used tanks put the probe in the tank on the area where the uth was to get the most accurite temperature. If your running more than one tank I would set up a system where you can monitor temps on the ones without the ranco constantly with a digital thermostat with probe to make sure all uth are operating correctly

    Re: Thermostats?

You need to place the probe outside the tank. I would suggest the bottom on or near the UTH, you will have to play with probe placement and thermostat settings a bit to fine tune it.
If the probe falls off, the thermostat will try to cook your snake. So it's important to make sure the probe will stay put.
Inside the tank it will get moved around...not good.

Yes mine has 3 plugs and I have a setting of 98.7 to have a hot side of 90. Took a week or so to get that dialed in, so keep that in mind. Also, I use racks so (for me) its easier to stabilize the temps. Hope it helps.
