    Weird incident

I'm the co-caretaker of a small collection that includes a baby Cinnamon (a few months short of a year), and while his owner was away at work, the little guy did something a bit strange.

He had been sleeping all day, and I woke him up with the noise I made refilling the water of one of the other snakes (separate, but adjacent, tank). He wandered around his tank for about 15 minutes, and sometime during that time he decided to take a poop in the corner. This seemed perfectly normal, as he ate (white mouse - frozen and then thawed to proper temp) almost exactly a week ago. Then he did a little bit more wandering, and while I was working on my computer in the adjacent room, I saw some fast movement out of the corner of my eye, and heard a hissing noise. I walked over to investigate and saw him thrash a few times, open his mouth, and make an odd, loud hissing/buzzing noise. He stopped,. thrashed again, opened (all the way) and closed his mouth a few times, made that sound again, thrashed, and then stopped. He looked at me, and flicked his tongue a few times, turned away, and went back about his normal tank-exploring.

It's been about 20 minutes now, and he's acting completely normal and comfortable (as comfy as BPs ever get, that is). Owner came home and handled him, he didn't seem any different than any other time he's been handled, and owner knows about what he did.

After he got done with the thrashing, his tail was pointed up, like he had just finished pooping, and there was a little bit of extra poop lying in the opposite corner of the tank, near where his tail/butt were. His rear was very far away from most of his poop, but the extra bit was close to where his tail was when he was thrashing.

He's totally mobile, and has been acting normal, other than that incident. None of the four BPs in the collection have ever done anything like that (though one of the others has *thunderous* gas sometimes that I've mistaken for an incoming storm) and I, and the owner, are a bit worried. Has anybody ever had their BP do something like that? He's acting totally normal now but we're worried that there's some underlying problem...

    Thanks for your time!

I wish I could help you with this one, but I have never seen or heard of it. Hopefully someone on here has.

I would suggest taking a sample of the poo to the vet to check for parasites. I have read similar stories of flailing and the noises and it has turned up as worms of some sort. Even if it isn't, a vet check up isn't going to hurt anything ^_^

What kind of substrate is the snake kept on? Furio has got little pieces of aspen stuck in his mouth while he's been wandering about acting goofy as usual and he thrashes around until he gets it out.

    Re: Weird incident

We've been using newsprint/paper towels for bedding for several months now, so substrate issues aren't likely.

We've been feeding the whole collection frozen and then thawed mice to lessen the possibility of any of them catching internal parasites...none of them have eaten live in four or five months. I'm *hoping* that parasites isn't the case...
