I am also sad to say your government controls your grocery shopping just as firmly as mine - they may not be as blatant about it or tell you anything about it but a simple search on banned food additives or chemicals should show you what they prevent any retailers from offering.

I agree 100%... America is changing. The past 20 years is proof positive of how both Democratic and Republican sides of the aisle pushed big government. Sadly, majority of the voting population think it's the solution to their problems. It is to be expected though. They don't know any better since they've never experienced anything different and they are superior so that the average American do not bother with studying history or other cultures because they don't feel they need to. By the way, it's technically not "my" government. I'm here in Florida because my husband is American. I'm Filipino. I used to work for my uncle who served Philippine Congress at the time of Marcos. My viewpoints on politics was molded by that experience. The majority of Americans nowadays have not experienced the challenges of oppression. So, they still have this rosy-eyed image of "what the government can do for them". When you've lived under the Marcos era for half of your life, it tends to give you a different perspective.
Okay, I have a strict rule not to discuss politics or religion unless invited, and I'm definitely breaking that rule here. I have to remember that the anonimity provided by the internet does not excuse me from applying proper etiquette. So, I really shouldn't be changing the OP's thread to a political discussion.
