    Questions about double hets....

I'm pondering going "shopping" when I file my taxes this year, and the thought of double hets crossed my mind. I was thinking say, a pair that was double het for albino and pied. How much does one of those guys cost? I searched and couldn't really find a price. And how about availability? readily available or not so much? Now, if I did my calculations correctly, (had to bring in the old punnett square) if I were to breed such a pair, the ratios should come out like this: 1/8 chance of getting either an albino or pied, 1/8 chance of getting an albino pied,1/2 clutch would bve normals and the rest het for either albino or pied...right? I thought it would be neat to "roll the roulette wheel" and have some fun with a pair like this. I'd also love to hear anybody's stories and successes from double het pairs they've had.

    Re: Questions about double hets....

On double hets you have a 1in 16 chance of hitting on the double homo. I breed double het vpi snows last year and out of 5 eggs I got 1 albino phet axanthic, 1 axanthic phet albino, and 3 pdh's. It was a fun breeding and no snow means they are breeding again this year.

Double het males are reasonable, but it also depends what you are working on.

I've seen a couple males for sale recently on KS. The price, I believe, was $400. It's still a fairly uncommon combo.
