its not the lawyers its the dumb people that want to go after people for money, the lawyers are just doing what they were payed to do. the guy being sued would most likely have a lawyer on his side as well.
that being said it is BS that people wanna sue people for risking their own lives to help them when they needed it.

I wonder if the justices on the California Supreme Court will ever be in a situation where they will have a chance to fully feel the ramifications of their stupid ruling.

Re: No more Mr. Niceguy, friggin lawyers
Can't say I blame the woman.
My SO is paralyzed from the chest down because someone tried to be "helpful". Being one who cares for a paraplegic, and has to watch a very able bodied man relearn how to do the every day things we take for granted, is extremely heartbreaking. It's unbearable to watch someone who was so strong become so depressed and feel so useless. Imaging needing help putting on your socks, or shaving. Then imagine having to need this help forever. It could have been avoided. But, I won't go into details here.
The trouble with cases like this is, proving not the intentions of the "helping" party, but proving no paraplegia would have occurred if the person had not intervened.
On the other side of the coin, it kind of makes you think twice about helping out in an emergency.

Re: No more Mr. Niceguy, friggin lawyers
I would guess that many more people are saved by good Samaritans than injured by them. The problem is that these injured people are approached by lawyers that tell them "You (or your children) will require expensive special care for the rest of your life. How will you pay for it? I am confidant that I can get you a multi million dollar settlement and if I can't it will cost you nothing. Don't feel bad about suing. The money will come from a big Insurance company". These poor people feel as though they have no alternative. Laws should be passed everywhere to protect good Samaritans from personal responsibility.

There ARE good Samaritan Laws. They don't, and shouldn't, protect against negligence.

I'd still save you guys, even if you drag me through the courts.
