    Feeding Question. Rats vs. Mice

We have had our ball for around 5 weeks. It wouldn't eat for around three weeks after we got it. The store (independent reptile, not chain) assured us he was feeding on live adult mice when they received him from the breeder. They had not seen this particular snake eat.

Finally last week he took two rat pinkies without hesitation. He did the same again yesterday.

My question is should we keep him on rats or try and switch him to mice? Right now he weighs around 144g and the pinkies were a pretty decent size.

Husbandry is spot on (glass tank, insulated sides, small hides, 55 humidity, 92 warm, 82-84 warm, two hides, etc.). I am beginning to think he just didnt like mice and likes the rats better. Is this common?

    thanks!

I would suggest that you feed him what he eats and also what is convenient for you purchase

Rats and mice are very similar in nutritional content. As the snake grows, people who feed mice simply feed multiples of mice to accommodate the snake's growing appetite.

That's kind of what I gathered from searching.

    Thanks!
