    Female $$$$

I wasn’t really sure where to put this thread…

But here’s what I wanna know. I’ve noticed that with ball python females are generally more expensive, than males. I’m more of a leopard gecko guy, and generally the price will be equal or males will be worth more, as the genetics can be passed on in greater numbers (breed male to x females, while females can only breed once) than it can with a female. So why are females more expensive? Is it because you need more females than males? Are higher end combo-morphs females still priced higher than males?

    YES!

You need more females than males, and the demand is higher for females than for males.

You only need one male for a gaggle of females, so... people want more females.

    That's about it.

As for the higher end morphs, the males end up more expensive than the females, though. Its a matter of the market... The more you see, the cheaper the male will be.

    Re: Female $$$$

Its because most breeders will hold back females to raise for breeding stock. It becomes a matter of supply and demand. If the breeders who are producing animals are holding back all if not most of their females then there is less available on the market and thus higher prices. I know when I start producing snakes all morph females I am going to keep.

i believe that it's a 50/50 % chance per egg if its male or female, just like in humans

Why should snakes be any different than any other species, the more females the better.

    Re: Female $$$$

also, non breeders sometimes prefer females because they get twice as big.
