    fires...

some of you will undoubtedly notice a trend in my posts in the genetics forum, here comes another. Many people on here have commented on the ability of fires to "clean up" morphs they are crossed with. as i an new to the genetic side of herping i have some questions. 1.) when a fire is crossed with another morph to "clean it up" does that become a new morph or a sharper example of the original? 2.) when a fire is mixed with another morph, can that morph also produce fires or b.e.l's? and finally has anyone looked into a fire x butter breeding? love them both and would love to see what they would produce. thanks for reading and would love the help. i am currently stashing money to get a breeding pair of fires, and would love to expand my collection past my normal male. a also want to add everyone i have met on here is absolutely great and i wouldn't go anywhere else to get my questions answered.

    Thanks again
    Chad

    Re: fires...

Hey Chad. Fires are indeed awesome - you've picked an excellent project if you start messing with them.

Cleaning up other morphs with fires just involves getting the fire gene and the other morph gene(s) into the same snake. You can call it a different name you want (example: pastel fire = firefly) but it's really just two old visual genes being expressed at the same time, enhancing eachother. Fires tend to lighten and brighten with age, which assists many existing morphs in looking prettier as they get older instead of "browning out" like they often do otherwise.

any two snakes (of the opposite sex), both with the fire gene, are capable of mating together and producing a BEL. It doesn't matter if they are also carrying genes for other morphs - two fire genes in one snake equals a BEL - if it has other interesting genetics, it won;t matter because you won't be able to see any coloration on these animals (usually)

i don't know if anyone has done fire/butters, but it sounds like you have an excellent project idea if you get one of each of opposite sex, you could get a uhm... butter fire (fire butter?) ... in your first clutch.

Melted butter perhaps? ...but the rest of you post is pretty spot on from my limited knowledge of genetics

Amazing animal from RDR; direct link:

Fires are really nice morph in person, offcourse is every crossing a new morph. You can make BEL's if you cross fire x fire genes whether if the genes are original or in a new morph.

A little off topic. But, what combination makes a butter daddy?

    Re: fires...

i believe it is when you cross a butter daddy x with a butter daddy sib, i know for sure it is a platty daddy x platty sib thats makes lesser platinums.

anyways. ralph has produced both a fire lesser and a fire butter in the last 2 years. there is so many morphs to be produced with them still. mark mandic produced the fire bee, and it is sooooo clean its unreal!
