Hey! Welcome to BP.net! I'm Eric.
Both males and females should be at least a year old before you breed them. Females should be at least 45g-50g or more. Males should have a healthy weight on them aswell (not overley thin).

Your welcome.
Cool! Are you going to get some morphs? If so, what kinds are you looking at?

Re: When are leopard geckos ready?
Well i was thinking of just getting normals or maybe carrot tails but i was looking around and i really like the mack snows there very pretty. Also i like the albinos there really pretty. Another question is does the color trait come from the female or male? December 6th i hope to bring home a male and female that are ready to breed this year. Also want to get my geckos sexed i think that they are female i cant tell 100%. Does the Pores ona male really stick out like dark pits cause on my two there barely visibly. Thanks alot

Re: When are leopard geckos ready?
I personally really love the Mack Snows/Super Snows and Super Hypo Tangerine Carrot-Tails. I'm sure you'll find some at the show that you love.
The gecko will receive genes from both parents, so they'll get one half the genes from the male and half from the female. A Mack Snow is a co-dominate trait, meaning a genetic trait where the heterozygous from of the gene (one mutated allele and one Normal allele for the gene, in this case a Mack Snow) is visually different from a Normal and visually different from the Homozygous form of the gene (two mutated alleles, in this case a Mack Super Snow). If you breed a Mack Snow to a Normal, each hatchling will have half a chance of being a Mack Snow (by receiving 1 mutated allele from the Mack Snow parent and one normal allele from the normal parent) and half a chance of being a Normal (receiving a normal allele from the Mack Snow parent and a normal allele from the normal parent). I don't know how much you know about genetics. Hopefully the way I worded it isn't too confusing. If you want more help in regards to genetics, you can read through some of the pages that I've linked to here: http://www.geckoglobe.com/geckoglobe/genetics.htm and this page that Judy, an admin here at BP.net, made: http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=52847
You can learn how to sex Leopard Geckos here, just scroll down a little less than half way down: http://www.geckoglobe.com/geckoglobe...ard_geckos.htm
Larger versions of the pictures can be found here: http://www.repticzone.com/articles/s...ardgeckos.html
How old are the two that you currently own? If they are barely visable and the animals are 9-12+ months old, they are probably females. Do they have the bulges at the base of the tail?

Re: When are leopard geckos ready?
WOW
Holy cow First off Thank You so much for all of this information. I like all of those geckos as well. I understand the traits and genes better now for some reason i thought that the traits in geckos come from one of the parents. IDK what i was thinking. Anyway my geckos should be 8-9 months old. There pores are barely visible but it looks like the have buldges behind the tail.
Thank you again.

Re: When are leopard geckos ready?
If they have the two bulges, then they are probably male. If they are still on the young side, their pores just might not be as visible. If you want to post up pictures of them, I can give my opinion of whether they are male or female for you.

Re: When are leopard geckos ready?
i would wait till the females are fat as can be. breeding takes alot out of them, especially if they retain sperm. i haven't had leo's do that, my r. ciliatus have. but i used to give my females butterworms, pinkies, fattening stuff. and dust the food too. they can be prone to metobolic bone disease. make sure their tales are real super thick. and thank you 4 reminding me of the hamburg show. i missed the last few and desperatley need rats and male T's. but god knows what i will end up. you know how that goes!
