My first herp was a bp. My second was a leo. Back then I had the "I want one of everything" attitude. A couple months into having the leo, I got another ball, and another, and another and another. I realized what my true passion was. I did have to give up my leo. I actually ended up trading him for another ball. It was tough to do any I still think about him all the time.

An alternative to "giving him up" per say, is to give him to someone close to you, a friend or relative, that would want him. Then you would know he is in good hands and you could always see him again.

I've had to do this when moving.. Can't exactly take fish to/from alaska.

Also some family friends gave us a tortoise when they moved to New Zealand, and we ended up giving the tortoise to our vet, who has TONS of tortoises that live in a wonderful outdoor facility when the weather is good when the parents moved back to alaska.

I gave the vet's email to the family friends so their little girl who owned the tortoise can get picture updates, and maybe reclaim her pet someday if she returns to the states.

If someone has to/wants to give up a pet for some reason, I highly recommend looking for a good friend or relative to take up the care of your pet. It's so much better than trusting strangers.

I was in the same boat as you. I chose to give mine away with cage and all. This was to insure that he was taken proper care of.
