    Confusing behavior

    So....
Our BP taht we have had for several weeks now nad has been feeding like a champ has me perplexed.
Up until about a week ago he has spent pretty much equal time between warm hide(s) and cold hides. Warm side typically is ~90F and cool side runs ~78F.
For the last week or so he has spent pretty much all of the time under the cool hide. Only time he has compleetly come out (taht I have seen and Im up at all hours so I usually see him out) is when I fed him and it was like the dinner bell rang as soon as I got the mouse (f/t) under the CHE to heat up a little) Most of the time he is tightly curled up in teh back of the hide. Sometimes he will have his head just poking out of the hide like he is in ambush mode.
I was concerned that the thermometer was having issues, but my IR heat gun has given very similar temps.

I probably wouldnt have thought much of this, but Ive been reading the Barkers book which says if it stays on one side the other sides temp is off.

    Any thoughts?

sometimes, even though the temps are fine, they just like one side better than the other.

If you have double checked the temps and they are dead on he might just have a preference at this time.

I've noticed the same thing with my little guy - he will develop a "preference" for one side or another and for the next couple weeks that is will he will spend most of his time. I thought it was the temps too - but after triple checking it, they were all good.

He will also go from being out a lot and cruisin to spending time just in his hide with only his head sticking out.

I gotta figure there are things going on in those little heads that we just don't see, ya know?

Well I think I figured it out

I went to check on him and temps tonight and noticed something white underneath him in the hide. He just shed.

make sure you're using as identical hides as possible also. my cool side hide is a bit smaller and she hangs out there more lately. i'm wondering if i should switch them to see if it's just the smaller one she's preferring.

    Re: Confusing behavior

Ill give that a try and see what happens. They are a little bit different. There are actually two hides on the warm side. One is a humid hide that looks like an egg and the other is just slightly bigger than its mirror on the cool side.
He was out cruising twice last night which is something I havent seen for 5 or 6 days, so I think the shed was the issue.
