I know never to use a pine substrate but is it ok to use wood from a pine tree for tank foliage... I would dry it in the oven @ 350 and then shave all the bark off before putting it in...

I believe that would be just like using pine substrate, the snake is coming into contact with pine either way. So no, I wouldn't use the pine wood.
