Ahhhh... I want a RTB!!!
It's gonna be a while before I can realistically get one (probably next summer), but just had to tell someone. Thinking of a Suriname

Re: Ahhhh... I want a RTB!!!
any partcular reason for this recomendation...
Again, I'm just starting to research this since I've got plenty of time, but as far as I can tell there are only slight differences between BCC and BCI from a care standpoint. I know that BCC have the potential to grow larger, may be a little bit more nippy, and can be a little bit more difficult to feed due to digestive issues based on what I've read. But, I haven't seen any overwhelming info to lead me to believe a Suriname wouldn't be ok as a 1st boa?

Re: Ahhhh... I want a RTB!!!
BCC's tolerate VERY little husbandry error.
Seeing how you only own 1 snake, I highly doubt (could be wrong) that you have temps and humidity down to a science.
I have 35+ snakes.......and I JUST got a suri.
Take what you will from me, If your set on getting a Suri, no one will stop you, but you have much MUCH more chances for error that wont harm you, but will harm the snake.

Re: Ahhhh... I want a RTB!!!
I strongly urge you to 'cut your teeth' on a Bci first. As Pat correctly stated, Bcc's tolerate very little husbandry errors and fluctuations within their environment. They also need to be fed very small amounts (relative to balls and Bci's) for their first couple of years of life; they are just a more fragile snake in terms of first time keepers.
I have 13 ball pythons and 3 Bci's and would not ever dream of getting a Bcc so early in my experiential snake care. And while Bcc's are very beautiful, so are Bci's.
Just more to think about....

If I were you I'd use the time between now and next summer to find a really good breeder of Surinam red tails, tell them what you're interested in, learn how they take care of theirs, and decide if it's something you could do as well.

hmmmm...... not really gonna comment a whole lot on this....
if you want a suri bro go for it. you some time to read up on em and do some test runs on an enclosure that is snakeless to get the conditions down to where they need to be. ive had several BCC's in the past and honestly the only thing i did different with them than the BCI's was they size of prey i fed them as babies. Of course i kept the conditions for my BCI's perfect too. as long as you are willing to spend the time it takes to properly house and care for it a BCC is a fine first time boa.
