Ok did it sound like a wheeze or like air leaking out of a tire. If it sounded wheezy like need to have a vet look at him might be an RI. If it just sounds like air leaking out of a tire, then he was hissing at you.

Eh, my fire spent the first week of me owning her randomly hissing when I was nowhere near her. If it doesn't sound wheezy then you have nothing to worry about, just imagine that your snake is practicing for when when needs it.

Mine will hiss at times, sometimes a whole lot. It was mainly during handling. I kept ignoring it and would hold for a few minutes after the last hiss. I did not want to condition the snake to equate hissing at me as a way to be put back in the cage. I would expect it to be whezzy or popping sounds if RI. If in doubt consult a vet. Respiratory problems can be bacterial or parasitic in nature. Make sure you are keeping proper temps and humidity. Try picking the snake up and see if this elicits the sound. If so it is probably just hissing in an effort to scare you.

Lol Kyros used to hiss at anything he wasn't used to. But now he is so layed back I take him everywhere! I think your snake was just hissing if it its not a wheezing/popping noise. Pick him up if you can and listen really closely next to his head and see if he is making funny noises.
