Male Vs. Female
hi, I am thinking of getting a ball python and i was wondering which gender is better for a beginner snake keeper, male or female? I've been looking on several websites and have noticed that females are more expensive...and was also wondering about that. If you have any information you could share with me that would be awesome, thanks!

Re: Male Vs. Female
Females are more expensive because they make babies That's the simple truth. If your looking for pet quality it really doesn't matter which. I've never heard of a temperament difference between males and females.
Females do get bigger, they average 6 feet
Males, 3-4 feet
That's the only real difference

Males are smaller and less expensive. People need more females for breeding.........you can have one male for 7 or so females. SO the cost of females is higher. Good luck with your decision

I would agree that if you're looking for a pet with no plans of breeding, male or female doesn't matter. I have never noticed a difference in attitude between males and females. The main difference as was pointed out is size. Females do typically get bigger than males, however I would say that they average maybe 4-5 feet with 6 feet long being a VERY big female.
