breeding normals 4 morphs??
hey im new to bp. breeding but i use to breed leopard geckos for high yellows and carrot tails when they were first being made. i also use to breed bearded dragons for sandfires and zig-zag sandfires... my question is i used to see 2 geckos with a hint of color here and there and breed them to get a better color sometimes so if i have my bp witch is a normal i got from a petstore but is very yellow for some reason breed with another bp simalar to her in coloring will i be able to eventually make a brighter maybe even bummble bee bp??? any help with this would be great i dont have the money for a het.

Re: breeding normals 4 morphs??
No, you will not be able to make a bumblebee from two normals, even with selectively breeding two normals.
A bumblebee is a cross of a pastel and a spider, pastel being a co-dom gene and a spider being a dominant gene. Basically, that boils down to either's either a pastel or spider, or it isn't.
You'd have a better chance of "maybe" getting lucky and getting two normals that could both carry a recessive gene (clown, pied, hypo for example) and hit the odds that way. But it's highly unlikely that you would hit the odds of getting two animals that are het for the same gene that are being sold as normals. Not saying it can't happen, but the odds are not in your favor.

Re: breeding normals 4 morphs??
but with the selective breeding the way i did with geckos will i be able to produce something that is a normal but say brighter or even the puzzle peice pattern that ive seen very rarly like the zig-zag morphs of bearded dragons?

Sure, as you've seen with your geckos, selective breeding is a good way to improve on traits you like. But like Robin said, you can't produce any genetic morphs by selectively breeding normals.

Re: breeding normals 4 morphs??
to use your example of a bumble bee... that is combo morph. A pastel x spider.
You cannot selectively breed to produce those. Pastel is one morph, and spider is another. Distinct genetics.
You can selectively breed pastels to get nicer pastels and you can selectively breed spiders to get nicer spiders. But you need a pastel and a spider to do this... and you can selectively breed the two together to get nicer bees.

so i should bite the bullet and get 1 male morph and 1 female morph and 1 female normal and then breed for morphs and hets? they are soo expensive tho

Spiders and pastels are dirt cheap compared to most of the stuff out there actually. $350ish for a spider and $125ish for a pastel. Throw in a YB or two, a "box o breeders" deal you see online all the time and bang, you're in like flint for around $1,500 if that. Build your own DIY racks/incubator, breed your own feeders and start breeding away. Yeah, I've been doing alot of research on this very thing myself as I want to start breeding too. I'm also looking hard at the recessive world as so much cool stuff is going on with DH recessives these days.
Anyways, if all that sounds too daunting to you then yes, get a spider male, a pastel female, and a few normal females. That way you can make a bunch of spiders, some pastels and a bee or two if you're lucky all in the first season. Then you're down the road to spinner blasts and super spinner blasts with what you've already got. See, I barely have any snakes and already I'm planning on having like 20 of them in a few years... Well, I can think of much worse things to be addicted to I guess lol.

You'll have to look around Kingsnake, on the classifieds here and google. I've seen them from reputable breeders for that much but you have to be really careful just like you do when buying anything online for alot of money. Mike Wilbanks wants about $500 for Spider males on his site but he's one of the top breeders and as such demands top dollar. This is also something to think about if you want to start off with the very best breeding stock guaranteed.

You also need to have a pinstripe to get spinners.
Spinner = spider x pin
Spinner blast = spider x pin x pastel
