het vpi axanthic x het albino

I just thought this would be the cheaper version to produce double het for snow (since axanthics and albinos are pricy here), then eventually from that, the snow balls. But did somebody already produced a snow ball from the odds of this breeding project? Just wondering though...

You could, but it would be pretty risky.

You have a 1/16 chance of one being het snow( I think thats wrong...) and getting two would be pretty hard, and would be a dissapointment not hitting it later.

Re: het vpi axanthic x het albino

I think the babies would each have a 1 in 4 shot of being a double het from het albino X het axanthic. So likely you would produce a couple but the problem would be identifying them and getting a pair together.

Seems like I've seen some fairly reasonably priced for sure double het males (maybe $350?). If you can swing one of those from a reliable source the big advantage would be that you would have one side of the pairing nailed down. The babies bred to a normal female would still each only have a 1 in 4 chance of being double het snow but if you keep all the females and pair them back to the double het male at least you are only looking at a 1 in 4 chance for each pairing to be double het X double het and not a 1 in 16 if both sides are possible double het. And if you had the money to have bought a het female to start with do that still and produce either albino possible het axanthic or axanthic possible het albino the first try and be that much closer.

If you don't spend a ton you haven't risked that much and if you where going to spend the time raising normals anyway at least you can have the chance for the extra price of a double het male and a het female or two.
