Only reason I ask is because some of the postings on KS have crazy contrasted animals.

I've been doing web design and such for about 4-5 years now and to tell you the truth it would be very easy to do brightness/contrast adjustments to enhance the photo.

A lot of times on animals I've inquired about, I'll personally correct photos to what I think the animal really looks like and make my decision from that.

A few times I've seen overexposed or upped contrast, normally it's noticeable though. I just realize that most people aren't photographers, and give them the benefit of the doubt that they weren't trying to market the animal unrealistically.

    Re: Ever been fooled by....

I have recently started taking pictures for a small breeder in my area. Basically I trade my computer and digital camera skills for learning from him and getting some mice, etc.

Anyway, we were talking about this situation the other day. We decided the best policy is to focus on setting up and taking good quality pictures right from the start, so there is no need to edit later. There is a really fine line between making a few tweaks to make the picture look good and falsely representing the BP being advertised.

The only thing I would ever tweak would be the exposure level maybe a tiny bit, but as I said before we focus on setting up the lighting so that won't be needed.

I think adjusting the color, saturation, and contrast levels is a big no no. IMO that would be falsely representing the animal.

The best way to make the BP look good is to have proper lighting and the correct settings on the camera.

This is the first time I ever photographed a snake for one of his ads, no adjustments at all:

I think there are two reasons for making adjustments, one is to try to honestly represent the animal in the best most accurate way possible and the other is to deceive.... just because a pic is altered doesn't mean it was done so in a dishonest manner, but as always.... research who your buying from.
