    What would you breed?

I'm trying to plan out my breeding season for this year, and I'm a little stuck for the moment. I think I kow what I am going to breed, but I want to hear what other people would do.

I have several nomal females that should go this year which I plan to spread out between my albino, YB, mojo and bee males, if my bee goes this year. If he doesn't, I will be using my spider. My problem is, I have a couple of co-dom females that should go this year, and I'm having a hard time deciding what to breed them to.

My YB should definitely go, and I'm pretty sure I'm breeding her to my YB male to try for an Ivory or two. My cinny female might go, but I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to pair her with my pastel for pewters, or my albino for cinnies het for albino. I love cinny and pewter albinos more than pewters, but it will take a lot longer, and I still really dig the pewters and silver streaks. Would I be smarter to go for pewters, then buying a female cinny het for albino later?

I thought I would have two female pastels go this year, but it's looking like it will only be one. I was planning to give one to my bee and one to my YB, but now I only have one this year. Would you breed her to a bee to try for killer bees, or the YB to get another combo holdback? My long term goal is to try for 4-5+ combo animals, so this would get me a step forward there, but a killer bee would also be a power house. Then there's the option of pastaves... So let's here what you would do, and why.

    Re: What would you breed?

    Jake,
I would breed the Albino to the Cinny. Mostly because you can probably pick up a Pewter next year for a very reasonable price. As for the Pastel female, I would alternate the Bee and the YB in with her, and pray for a KillerBee and a Pastel YB. If you only get one or the other, at least you let the "Gods" decide what you need.

    Just my humble opinion,

I would go with pewters and buy a cinny het albino, then go for killer bees with the pastel. I don't know much about breeding though, I just like pewters and killer bees!

    Pastaves are really cool too.

Thanks, Tim. I knew you would go for cinnies het albino. You're all about the recessive co-dom and double recessive combos. Another thought would be to put the ivories off for a year and breed my female YB to my bee... This gets a lot harder once you have more than normal females. I only have a few morph females and there are just so many options. I don't know how some of you guys do it.

    Re: What would you breed?

I agree with Tim on who to put the pastel with but with a slight differnce. If they were mine, personally I'd throw the yellowbelly and the mojave with the pastel and try for a pastave and a pastel yellowbelly. Both of these snakes are HOT! I love killerbees as well don't get me wrong, but if I had a bee already in my collection, i'd prefer to add some things that were a bit more differnt looking, rather than just a brighter killer bee (not that I wouldn't want one of those too!)

As far as the cinny goes I'd be on the fence too. I'd personally look and see the prices for pewters as well as the prices for cinnys het albino and see which is higher this year. Then you can make an estimate at which will hold its value better by next year. Once you have that you can make a decision as to which one will bring you the most from your breeding/be the cheapest for you to purchase from an outside source. Either way I don't think you can go wrong. Just my

I agree. I think pewters are the big combo with cinnies right now, so there should be more to choose from, and have lower price tags than cinny het albinos next year, imo. Plus, the albino cinny and albino pewter are high on my list, so I might as well get started on them sooner than later. I'm still on the fence about what to do with my YBs and female pastel. Maybe I should just put both the YB and pastel females with the bee and YB males, and throw a mojo in with the pastel, and let God decide it all. He gave me that BEL paradox, so I trust that he's looking out for my best interests here.

    Re: What would you breed?

I would definately breed the cinny to the Albino.. You would be on your way to making an all white snake with red eyes.. I saw a pic of the super black pastel albino and it was killer looking. On the other I would pair the bee with the pastel and go for killers. That would be a real power house morph for you... 3 genes I can't wait until I can make some 3 gene snakes.. LOL Anyway good luck in whatever you decide... You know what you want better than anyone of us bro..

Yellowbelly + Bee... would definitely be on my list if I had that choice. Yellowbellies, yellowbelly pastels, yellowbelly spiders, bumble bees, pastels, spiders... and if yer lucky, a bumblebelly.

The killer bee is still only two mutations, but the killer bee, when bred to a normal would produce a bee whenever a bumble bee would only produce a spider. It is a power house breeder, being that the least it would ever produce, when paired with a normal, is a pastel. I'm a big fan of the pastel YBs and any combination with those two genes, so I think I am going to plan to produce some of those one way or another. I could even say screw it and breed a mojave to the yellow belly, than in a couple years I could have YB, pastel, mojave bees. But once I start getting into 3+ morph combos, I'd want some of those breeders to be homozygous for a gene or two, so I'm not hatching 6 different 1-2 gene single mutation animals from prized pairings. On the other hand, I could get lucky and hit a 5 or 6 gene combo from all heterozygous co-doms and save a year or two...

I'm not a huge fan of the super cinny albino, as I was hoping it would be a solid yellow snake, but that too is a power house breeder for sure. When bred to a normal, the worst you can hatch out is a cinny het for albino. Bred to a het albino you would get cinny albinos, and bred to a pastel you would get all cinnies and pewters 100% het for albino, etc. I'm definitely thinking ahead like that, but that makes it all the more difficult to plan anything in stone. There are just so many possibilities.
