    Trader's Question?

    Trader's question?
OK, It's pretty much SOP ( standard operating procedure) that when animals are traded the person who initiated the trade ships first.

    Now the question:

If you specifically put in your ad that you accept trades or ask for a specific animal in trade are you or are you not initiating a trade?

I think the answer is pretty obvious, but I'd like to get some feedback before I state my position.

    Re: Trader's Question?

    Hi,

    I honestly do not know.

I do know if you don't trust someone to ship their side of the deal something is wrong somewhere.

If both sides can trust each other to that basic level I don't think it matters two hoots who ships first.

    Re: Trader's Question?

Here is how I think it would work.

In a normal "for sale" ad, the person buying the animal has to pay before the person selling ships the animal.

Therefore, in an ad where the animal is still basically for sale, but the price is a different animal instead of cash, I'd still expect the buyer (who responded to the ad) to "pay" by shipping their animal first, and the seller (who posted the ad) to ship second.

If you don't trust a person enough for that arrangement, don't respond to their ad. But you can't expect a seller/trader to not place an ad just because they don't trust everyone on the planet who might happen to respond.

    Re: Trader's Question?

It depends on the situation, but in most cases, if someone is looking for a trade, they expect the person responding to ship first.

Problem is, if it is not carved out in the wording of the ad, things get cloudy. It is one of the FIRST THINGS people need to talk about when starting a trade.

Bottom line is this: If you do not trust the person, why trade?

I think these are true and valid points, usually cash is the first option but SOME are open to the trade idea. Like mentioned before usually compensation must be paid before animal in add is shipped wether it be cash, animals or some kind of personal property.

Just because a trade was mentioned why should the usual protocol be changed unless of course a different agreement was made.
