    Boa constrictor

This is a redtail I'm going to buy from Petco.

Its healthy other than the fact that its vent is i want to say is a little red.

I don't know the cause of it was but I think with good care it could heal.

Should I buy this one and just let it heal? o

r just wait until they get new ones??

There are no vent pics just the snake its self.

    Re: Boa constrictor

Can't tell much from the pictures really.. except that it's a cute little red tail. There's usually a bit more risk in buying a snake from a place like petco rather than from a reputable breeder.. and I don't know what would cause the vent to be red like that.

I'd try to find a local breeder, or even have a snake shipped to you over buying from a chain petstore.. but that's just me, I've had bad luck buying snakes from petstores. Breeders typically have much better prices as well..

    Hi,

    I have to say;

Buying a snake you already know has a problem from petco versus buying a known healthy snake from a respected breeder doesn't seem the best way to start off.

When you consider the first thing you should probably do with the petco snake is have it checked at a vet for parasites etc it may turn out to be a lot more expensive that it looks at first glance.

It might be a good idea to drop jim020cricket a PM to ask about the red vent to see how serious the possible causes were?

    Re: Boa constrictor

Please do not buy the snake. Petco is known to have animals who carry bugs and major illiness that can and do kill whole collections of snake and other reptiles. It already has a problem LET Petco take care of it. Please DO NOT "rescue" this one because in the long run they will only get a SALE out of you but they will also go a head and throw another poor boa in that snakes place the next day. PLEASE buy a boa from a well known breeder and NOT a petstore!

    Re: Boa constrictor

as listed above me buying a snake from a chain pet store has many risk parasites, disorders, illness. many snakes in chain petstores are wild caught. which are prone to sickness ect..

but if you buy from a experinced keeper ex constrictors unlimited. you can have a healthy boa of execptional quality and problem free.

    Re: Boa constrictor

I wouldn't buy from Petco. Especially if you are buying your first boa. This one already seems to have a problem.

You really should start out with a good healthy snake, from a reputable breeder.

I have one of Jimi's (jim02cricket) boas, although she is not my first. She has been a dream. Eats everytime, NO health problems and is as docile as they come. Really a joy to handle. If you want a boa contact Jimi for sure. You cannot go wrong buying from him.

Even though you'll more than likely have to pay shipipng charges, it will be far cheaper than any vet bills from a chain pet store snake.

I have had enough rescues from Petco to know!
