Pronunciation of herp related words...
I always wondered how to pronounce boid. Is it BO-ID or BOY-D?
Also if anyone has any herp related words that they need help pronouncing post the word here.

Re: Pronunciation of herp related words...
bo-id
I always have had problems with leucistic for some stupid reason. I want to look at it and say "loo kis tick" rather than the proper "loo sis tick". For some reason my brain insists on feeding me a hard k sound in that word.
The other one I had trouble with was colubrid. I wanted to say "call you brid" but it's pronounced "cull loo brid". Took me forever to get that one down pat.

Seems that when you first get started in this crazy stuff you read these words so many times doing research, reading threads, looking for info, etc., that you kind of get set in your ways of beleiving that they should be spoken a certain way. Then you go to a herp show, or watch a vid and someone pronounces it differently, it's like, what did he say? At least that's how it was for me...I still read leucistic and think loo kiss tick...

From a post made by Kara back in 2006....
Boid (pronounced "bow-id" - 2 syllables with a long "O" sound, not "boyd") - a snake from the family "Boidae," which encompasses the subfamilies Boinae (boas & close kin), Erycinae (sand boas & kin), and Pythoninae (pythons & kin).
So while all boids are constrictors, not all constrictors are boids. There are many colubrid snakes that constrict their food, as well.
Hope this helps!

LOO-SIS-TIC
FUNNNY STORY
There was a guy that came up to me at a show and wanted to see my "Peed"
I said, "I'm sorry, My what??"
He pointed to the Pied on the table, and said "That Peed right there... It's beautiful"
I stared at him for a second, trying not to laugh (He was a BIG dood), and said "The Pah-eyed, sir?"
He looked at me and said "OH! Is that how you say it?" I said "Yes sir..." and we both started laughing our heads off...
Its ALLLLLLL good
