Yes but you can own an indigo without a permit. As far as I'm concerned, that makes up for it.

I appreciate it that Mike. As I said this issue is at the center of my thoughts. I feel the future for all reptiles and amphibians is grim. Sure there will be minimal amounts of these animals in existence. But what about the genetic diversity? Once it's gone it's gone. Narrow genetic pools have spelled disastor for many species. I'm afraid captivity is these animals last hope. Thankfully, a lot of herps don't imprint on humans and they can make an easy transition to the wild if ever need be. I doubt that day will ever come it would take a major disastor or epidemic to even put a dent in the human population (AKA Earth's Plague).
Morphs play a part in all of this. I love showing pictures of some of my animals at work. People are amazed at the beauty and just maybe their eyes open up. Perhaps I made a small enough impact to prevent some of these individuals from swerving to purposefully hit any snake they see.
I live in an area where people will blow holes in their house with a shotgun to kill a garter snake. I don't understand how it's socially exceptable to destroy and mutilate a snake. If I were to do the same to a dog I would be considered pre-serial killer material.
BTW I don't hate people. It is what it is. But I do like my animals a lot more.

Re: california makes no sense!
In regards to the ad for African animals... well that stuff is more common than one might think. Large zoos are always trying to breed their animals so that there is a cute fuzzy baby awaiting the viewing public. But what do you think happens to the larger, not-so-cute, older animals when there's a surplus? They ship them out the back door to brokers for fur, exotic meats, and what are called "canned hunts" (I believe that's the term). It's where someone who has more money than they know what to do with pays to hunt a big-game animal in a closed, safe environment. The whole process is one big, sick joke. And half of these zoos masquerade themselves as "conservationists" and "animal sanctuaries". Obviously, not ALL zoos are like this, but it seems to me that there are more bad ones than good.
