CH BP behavior

I got my BP form petco for $30 and aside from the mites that I just discovered seems to be in good condition. It eat a live mouse at the store, and is active at dawn and dusk. It hasnt bit me yet. I try to touch its head while holding it, and it moves its head back quickly as if to say dont touch me there. I want to know if theres any way to make it more friendly towards myself and others? Should I be able to touch the snakes head without it trying to bit me?

hi most ball pythons are head shy and do not like to have their head touched. the best way to make your snake 'like' you is to handle it. i would give your snake a week or so to get used to their new house. (or so meaning longer)

Ball pythons tend to be head shy - they just don't like having their heads touched. With regular gentle handling, your little guy may get over that in time - or s/he may not.

Really, with a new pet, you're _both_ learning the best ways to interact with each other. If you learn to pay attention to what the snake is expressing, you'll learn the sorts of attention it's willing to accept.

You say the snake ate a mouse at the store - has s/he eaten for you yet? You might want to ease off on the picking-up-and-playing-with until s/he's comfortable enough to eat in your setup.
