I will not pay more than $1,500 for a morph.
If I had unlimited funds though, my budget for buying morphs would of course be unlimited as well.

I prolly wouldnt pay anymore then $300 these days but I just buy male hets and breed siblings and such. Paying so much money on somthing that is so spurt of the moment seems crazy. Today $5000 next year $500 then more hiding the secrets. This is a main reason I think is why ball pythons wont surpass corn snakes.
Corn snake breeders tell all for some reason while a ball breeder will die with his or her secret because the $$$$. I see sombody with a big house payment trying to come up off a couple snakes not sombody that truly "cares" about the new morph they have discovered for the good of "The herp community". They would rather make $100,000 off a clutch then I dunno making a difference.

Hmm, so you're saying if you had a snake that was worth $5,000, you'd sell it for $100?

The most I would go is 2 grand... but that is practicality. I would not plan for a morph higher than 2 grand... and by the time I got the money I am sure it will have dropped to... well, less.
Although I was really tempted to have babies so that I could sell them and get a 1.1 pair of het toffees.

If you take two babies 1.1 and raise them up to breeding size you have around $100 a year tied up in food if you buy and don't breed your own feeders. So lets say you are lucky and get a female up to weight in 2 years raising a male beside her you are up to $400. Add in the cost of electric, water, and the enclosure you probably end up with $600 to $800 tied up in the pair and this does not include personal time or any vet bills. Obviously you will more than likely take a loss selling the babies at $100 each. This is why most people will not purposefully breed for normals. It is impractical. Breeders with lots of snakes have a volume advantage. I would say entry level co-dom and dom morphs for between $200 to $600 is reasonable. Entry Level recessive Hets in the same area are reasonable as well. Full blown entry level recessive BP's for between $600 to $1200 is good as well. You start getting into the multi gene morphs and things can really go up to be reasonable. When you consider the odds of hitting a combo with two recessive double hets is 1 in 16. These guys are not easy to make and years upon years of work can be involved. The breeder should be rewarded for their work, patience, and research for these kinds of animals. Even double co-dom animals should be above $1000 due to the work involved and the potential these snakes have.

New guy here, but I'm saving for my first bp, and decided $250 was the most I would spend. Hoping to get a male spider. Originally I set out to get an albino, but I just can't justify spending that kind of money to the wife.

Im saying who came up with the $5000 in the first place needs some hugs or friends. No offence but no I wouldnt sell I snake for $5000 without feeling like a complete ass.
Can throw all the cool cadilac names on that ball python but it doesnt make it a cadilac. High prices right now are all the "big dogs" milkin it for what its worth. In a couple years so many new morphs wil be coming out they will be competing for prices and cool names.
People can do what they want and will continue to but that doesnt make it right. Maybe im the one missing somthing here?
