I don't bother with cards anymore. All of my stuff is on iHerp. It's easy to update from anywhere and you can have it open and update your whole collection at once.

I'll usually make a list of who's getting what and feed from that. Then I just have to update online.

I have a template created on Word that I keep my records on. It's a lot more convenient to have clipboards next to the enclosures so I can jot things down as I see them. If you want a copy of the template, PM me your email address and I can send it off to ya.

    Re: Ball python record cards

I made a simple one in Xcel.

    looked like this:

    |Date|Fed |Notes |

then lots of little boxes under each :p

I just write the date (every sunday for me), what i fed her, and when she sheds I just write "shed" under notes I also write weight under notes randomly when i can be bothered

    Re: Ball python record cards

My wife got the degei program and loves to use it. At first we took a card we got with a snake from Ralph Davis and used it as our template. Now that we have the computer program though we gave a lot of the cards away to a friend. We kept some and my daughter now has a snake (or so she thinks) and she keeps track of every feeding, shed, urate, poo... on the card while my wife secretly puts it into the computer. She is under constant supervision when she does anything with the snake, but we let her do almost everything. We figure it is good practice and a good learning experience for her. Only problem is the little girl still has not ate after 1 1/2 weeks and she is so small at 45 grams that it is kinda worrying us. The other Sib we got with her has finally begun eating. We are wondering if either of these two girls had any meals in them before they were sold to us. Oh well we will get her to eat eventually, just good practice for when we finally have babies.

    Re: Ball python record cards

OoOOOo I've been out of the loop for quite sometime - checking out iHerp now!

Even with something on the computer, I still like to take manual notes that I keep in the snake room. 1.) So i have them upstairs with me to reference to 2.) for backup in case something happens to the computer records.

I got a little fed up with the index cards, so I bought 2 3-ring binders (one for boys and one for girls), bought tabbed dividers, and gave each snake their own little section. The dividers i bought had a front page where you can label which tab is for what, so it's easy to find each snake. For breeding season, I expect I will make one for hatchlings. I use different colored highlighters for "events" such as eating, refusal, locks, shed, poops - what have you.

I have to have different colors and be super organized - I have inattentive adhd and get confused easily otherwise Looking at a dull, black and white, perfectly spaced and celled excel sheet or any computer program is just simply too hard and confusing for me.
