Egg question/incubation substrate???
OK so I am using peralite for my incubation substrate in a hovabator (cause I was not able to build an incubator in time.
I currently have about an inch and a half deep of substrate in my container with egg grate inbetwwen the substrate and the eggs.
my temps are between 88*-90* and my humidity is between 88%-90%.
For some reason some of my eggs are shriviling up????? What causes them to do this??? Not enough water/humidity???
If is switch to vermiculite can I just put the eggs into the subsrated or do I need to seperate them like I do with the peralite???

Re: Egg question/incubation substrate???
Perlite is not the best medium by itself.
I would suggest mixing it with Vermiculite or just using Vermiculite on its own.
It also sounds like your humidity is not up all the way.
You can put the eggs in the new substrate and hope that they recover.

Re: Egg question/incubation substrate???

Re: Egg question/incubation substrate???
I put them in the substrate. It works well that way...
If you are having problems now, I would suggest going straight vermiculite.
Hatchrite I have no experience with, so I can't really comment..

Re: Egg question/incubation substrate???
Lady is correct, I just want to insert that I do have some experience with Hatchrite and I have 100% hatch rates with it, so far (except for eggs that were obviously bad to begin with..it's not a miracle worker).

Re: Egg question/incubation substrate???
ok sweet. I will switch over to the vermiculite when i get home tonight. I think one of the eggs is beyond hope but (crosses fingers) maybe it will come back. they are still white and when I candle them they are pink.
